Maria Kroll is an artist working between the United Kingdom and Israel. Working primarily with textile, she uses thread, embroidery, and suspended fabric as spatial and emotional structures. For Kroll, textile is not only a material but a language, a way to hold memory, silence, and time within layered surfaces. As part of the artist duo Pomidor (founded in 2018), she explores societal silence and political visibility through hand-stitched text and textile flags. Her ongoing project SPEECH(LESS) reflects on suppression, public speech, and acts of resistance.In her individual work, she turns toward intergenerational memory and Jewish cultural continuity. With grandparents who spoke Yiddish, her grandfather from Poland and her grandmother from a Jewish shtetl in present-day Ukraine, she explores how restriction and displacement create density and connection rather than disappearance. Born in Russia and having made aliyah in 2022, her practice is shaped by lived experience of migration and layered belonging.
